MAEREWHENUA MINE

The mine superintendent1 of the Maerewhenua Goldfields Development Company, Limited, reports water '(turned. into Mosquito race last week and nine heads of water were delivered into dams at top of Golden Gully; These were filled over the week-end. Sluice-boxes placed in position and tailings now being sluiced out of Duffer's Gully. For the past five months, the superintendent further reports, not less than 30 heads of water have been going down to the Maerewhenua River past the mosquito intake, which is considered very encouraging, as the last two months have been exceptionally dry. Pipeline to, Duffer's Gully, placed in position and one of monitors set up. Sluiceboxes .placed in Golden Gully. Work in tail-race tunnel progressing satisfactorily, tunnel being driven 290 feet. Rock now much softer, and when more tunnellers are available it is proposed to work three shifts. Dam, repairs completed. Core of lower dam raised- to 25 feet, and filling is now being sluiced. Core of upper dam built to a height of 8 feet. Approximately 10 miles of Cook's Race widened and work proceeding at head of this race. Fluming below Bushy Creek has been placed. . - N
