The following are two good .sum-mer-flowering amnuals of recent introduction which may be planted now. Mesembryanthemum eriniflorum, a dwarf plant producing an abundance of bloom of various :colours> The plants look particularly Well^ when massed in beds in eunny positions, or they may be used effectively as edgings. Very easy to grow. Salvia splendens, "Bangatea Gem, an improved salvia bonfire, the flowers being the same brilliant scarlet but the plants are compact'and bushy, growing not more than 18 inches tall and when in full bloom < being entirely covered iwith scarlet flowers.
