BACK AT WORK
HON. W. DOWNIE STEWART
MAY SPEAK TONIGHT
Looking very well after his trip abroad the Hon. W. Downie Stewart, M.P. for Dunedin West, who was one of the New Zealand delegates to the conference of the Institute of Pacific Relations at Banff, Canada, returned to Wellington today and immediately took up his Parliamentary duties.
In a brief interview with a "Post" representative Mr. Stewart said he was disinclined at the moment to add anything to the views which he had already expressed in interviews and addresses in Auckland. ' He remarked that he had a lot of leeway to make up in getting'acquainted with the legislation at present before Parliament.
Mr. Stewart was particularly interested in the Reserve Bank of New Zealand Bill. ' He said that so far he had had no opportunity of studying the amendments, which had been made in the measure, but ho hoped to become acquainted with the measure before the second reading debate concluded. Mr. Stewart was reminded that it was the intention of the Government to conclude the second reading stage at today's sitting, and ho remarked that in that event he would probably speak tonight.
Another measure in which Mr. Stewart is naturally interested is the Companies Bill. Although he is aware of the general provisions of the Bill, he is looking forward to an opportunity of studying the Bill in detail.
