MORTGAGE RELIEF
EXTENDING THE ACT
GOVERNMENT'S INTENTION
An announcement that it was the intention of the Government to extend the operation of the mortgagors' relief legislation, which expires on December 31 naxt, was made in the House of Representatives this afternoon by the Minister of Justice (the Hon. J. G. Cobbe), when replying to a question by Mr. W. J. Poison (Government, StratMr. Poison asked the Minister to take the earliest opportunity of making an announcement of the Government's intentions in the matter, so as to give the farmers some hope for the future. The Minister said it was the intention of the Government to bring down legislation to extend the period of the operation of the Act, further machinery (amendments to render the Act more effective were at present under consideration.
