MARANUI CLUB
Reference to the success met by' the club during the past difficult financial season was made by speakers at the twenty-second annual meeting o.£ the Maratrui Surf and Life-saving Club, held last night. The distinctions of holding all the JSew Zealand championships, and of having gained more championships than any other club, spoke well for the efficiency of the organisation, said Mr. ¥. Chapman in moving the annual report. Although no major rescues were performed, a keen., watch was maintained on the beach throughout tho season by the patrols. Minor assistance was rendered to bathers on several occasions. The report stated that club members were well represented at inter-club carnivals during the season. During the Gisborne touu-D. Plank equalled C. Ji. Liaridge's club record of 25 4-ssec over ntty yards. Other notable successes during the season were the recapture, in the record time of smin 16 3-asec, of the Walker and Hall flying squadron provincial championship, and the winning tor the first time of the Swimmers' Memorial Trophy and the Junior Cup. The AVellingtou inter-club competitions were earnestly contested, and the club met wth a fair measure of success, the' juniors especially giving very creditable displays. Early in the season a very successful tour was made to Gisborne at the invitation of the Olympic Swimming and Life-saving Club, several .members of the New Zealand championship team being included in those selected. . . ; The question of coaching received considerable attention. It was pointed out that, owiug to.some irregularity last year, several junior members had been induced to join another club. A suggestion that a coaching committee should be formed was adopted, and was dealt with in the election of officers. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr.'T. G.
