In response to the appeal launched by; the Red Cross Society on behalf of raising funds to cover the transport of a child left behind iv Russia by "her parents during the revolution, a very successful coin afternoon was held at the Presby* terian schoolroom, TCosenpath, yesterday. The hostesses were Mesdames.' Cos^ Downes, and Ellen, and Miss Susie Eagar, Musical items were interspersed with, com* petitions, those contributing to the proi gramme being Mesdames O'Neill, Cob brook and Misses Burn and Seymour.

The secretary of the. Red Cross Society, briefly outlined the case of the Russian child, stating that it had been brought to the society's notice in 1929, the inter* vening years being spent in tracing tha whereabouts of the girl, not an-easy mat« ter in a vast country which had passed! through the disturbance of a revolution. The position now was that the girl hacj been found and everything was in residi* ness for her return to her parents. That net sum was stated by the League of Red Cross Societies to be £80, but unless tha endeavours to have the exchange lifted were successful a further £20 would ba required. The facts of the case had been thoroughly investigated, and subscribers to the appeal could rest assured that it was most deserving and merited : every con« sideration. In conclusion, the secretary; thanked Mrs. Cox arid her Tielpers, also the Rev. Mr. Lilley, for the courtesy; shown. The afternoon resulted in thr sum of £4 being donated towaTds tly appeal. - '.
