TODAY'S COMMUNITY SING

!■■■ ♦ ~ ■ There were about 3000 people at the Town Hall at, today's community sing. A special attraction was the presence of the combined bands of the Australian warships Canberra and Australia, under the conductorship of Commis-sioned-Bandmaster ;yentry. The bands were introduced by the Mayoj (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop). The song leaders were Messrs. Owen Pritchard and Will Mason,, and as usual' they soon settled down to business. Limericks were acknowledged, and in- the singing of them everyone joined wholeheartedly. Favourite songs were sung, and these were interspersed . with' items by. the combined bands, whose work was greatly appreciated. Mr. Frank Growther was at the piano, and Mr. Lawrenco -Hag-, gitt was at the organ. Many parcels of books for the Wellington Hospital library, together with gifts of vegetables" and garments, were received. The Mayor's Fund benefited to the ex : tent of £34 15s B,d, a record collection for this year.
