EXCELLENT OPENING DAY

A stiff frost presaged sunshine lor the opening day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National Meeting yesterday, but a heavy mist settled down in the morning and it was not till the second race that the sun came through. The track, slightly easy, was in otherwise excellent order. The attendance was well above expectations, and catering for it caused the racing to lag till it was .50 minutes late at the last race.
