THE TEIAL HURDLES
HOUNSLOW IN BEST FORM
Hounslow, who lost caste with Canterbury racegoers following a poor showing at the Hunt Meeting, was sent out at good prices in the Trial Hurdles, and he 'came'home a decisive winner a length and a half ahead of Rasouli and Polling Day. He Jay behind Rasouli and Polling Day till in the straight, but after landing, over the last fence h! finished much too solidly for the leaders, though Rasouli might have been harder to get had he not run down the fence and lost a let of ground in the jump. The winner was also successful on the course at the last New Zealand Cup Meeting, and recently he went two good races at Trenthani to finish second to Sir Musk on the middle day and fourth in the Winter Hurdles. His jumping yesterday was excellent throughout, and, according to those who were at the Hunt Meeting, he was always hitting out much more freely on the flat. Rasouli, having only his second race over hurdles, would probably have won had he managed the fences better. He lost ground at every obstacle, but between them he would race up past Polling Day. The last fence he ran down very badly, jumping the outside panel, but_ once balanced he came on again. He is well worth remembering. Polling Day, two lengths back third, was in the lead after every fence, but was passed by Rasouli on the flat stretches. He jumped very cleanly, but was just lacking in the necessary, stamina at the end, though he was an easy third. The best of the others were Rational 11, Henry of Navarre, and Joie de ..Val. Rational II did not jump too well, and was off the course much of the way. Henry of Navarre was all over the place, and- after being next behind the three leaders at the straight entrance was unable to improve.- Joie de Val was always well up, and may do better on the later days. Huntley, Royal Limond, and Night Parade went fair races only. Semper Paratus, fencing very carefully; was always tailed 'off.- "••■■,"'
