PERSONAL NOTES
Lieutenant N. V. J. T. Thew, R.N.. and Mrs. Thew, who was formerly Miss Jean Lawford, of Auckland, returned to New Zealand this week by the Rangitane, after spending some years abroad. Mrs. J. F. Vogel, Lower Hutt, is the guest of Mrs. Eric Riddiford, Orongorongo, for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Duncan, Huntcrville, will be among the North Island visitors to Christchurch for the Grand National. Miss Jessie Elliott will leave on Monday evening for Nelson, to spend a few days with Lady Ferguson, of Dunedin, who is spending the winter months there. Mrs. Richard Barker, Gisborne, andj her daughter will be visitors to Christchurch for Grand National week. Miss Janet Stevenson and Miss Helen Buchanan, Christchurch, who have been their guests, will return home on Monday night. Miss Joan Davis is a- AVellington visitor to Auckland. Mrs. 0. H. Beetham, Masterton, will be the guest of Mrs. Eric Milton, Fendalton, Christehurch, for the races. Mrs! A. Blair and Miss Alison Blair, Eeeleston Hill, left Wellington today for a brief visit to Napier. Mr. and Mrs. S. Critchley, "Tyntesfield," Marlborough, will be visitors to Christchurch for Grand National week. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Johnston, Wellington, are visiting South Canterbury, an.d will spend race week in Christehurch. Staying at the Hotel St. George a,re Lady Mary Wheeler (Leicester, England), Mrs. G. F. Lomas, and Miss IJ. Samson (Wanganui), Mrs. M. E. Jewett and Miss Helen Neel (California), and Miss Livingston (Dunedin). Miss Gray (Pukerua Bay) and Miss Cutten, and Miss Henry (Dunedin) are among the guests at the Royal Oak Hotel.
