COUNCIL WAGES CUTS
While I have always been an advocate of good wages (writes E.T.J.), I think if the City Council can find money to restore vage cuts, would it not.be more just to reinstate as many men as its departments can carry and help to create more employment and add to the spending power? ..." Men who have given of their very best of a lifetime's experience had to be thrown out of employment on account of workshop staff reductions in brder to meet some of the deficiency of the tramway revenue before the financial year closed in Match of this year. The writer came to the City Council at a time when a craftsman of his ability was required, and after over seven , years' loyal and faithful service to ' the council he was simply handed his notice. I use the word loyal because while I have been employed by the coiinciM couldhave obtained positions "with, other firms at a greater advantage to myself but remained .with the council, as I was led to Understand that my position was permanent.
