BACKING OF PUSS MOTH
Puss 'Moth was installed favourite for the July Handicap; at'.,Ellerslie. last Saturday, one mile and a quarter, and this was rather hard to understand, except that good reports had come through fron^Pukekohe concerning his work there since he won two sprint events at the Great Northern Meeting,; says the "Star." Puss Moth had never raced at a middle distance previous to Saturday,.the''longest journey he had been tried over being seven furlongs, at which he succeeded. He was,'soon in the lead with Mana When ua, but dropped back about fifth 'when half the journey had been covered,' and never afterwards, improved On: that ippsition.
