GOOD NORTH ISLAND HAND
A study of the acceptance list for the Winter Cup discloses the fact that out of 26 horses standing their ground, only seven are.trained in the North Island, says "Argus." Though lacking in numbers, however, the northern contingent is strong in quality.
It is not often that Derby and Stead Cup winners are nominated . for the Winter Cup, but Cylinder is in that class and his form at Trentham this month entitles him to great respect. Beacon Fh-e is one of the 'most consistent performers out this winter. Inflation, at his best, is a horse of good class. Playground, a winner at Trentham, is a good prospect in. any mile field. Foreign Queen, a brilliant recruit; from hack class, has done so well up to seven fm-longs that her chance looks very bright. Master Norval had some useful form in Auckland, and Cottesmore is a, very smart hack. It will cause no surprise to find several in this list-prominent when the final stage of the Winter Cup is in progress.
