PROPOSED RIGHT-OF-WAY

HARBOUR BOARD'S REFUSAL

Tho controversy which has raged round the question of a site for Wellington's new fire station reached the calmer atmosphere of tho Harbour Board last evening, and unanimity was expressed on the recommendation of the wharves and accounts committee that the board should not agree to the granting to the council of a 30-foot right-of-access through the board's land at Te Aiio. The recommendation of the committee was as follows:—

That the Town Clerk be informed, with reference to the suggested offer of a site for a Central Fire Station, (a) that tho board-agree to the two splayings of the street corners of Herd-Chaffers and Cable Streets, provided tho council either purchases the land on an agreed on valuation or accepts a special lease with definite conditions of renewal; (b) that the board docs not agree to .tho-alter-native) proposal to put a 30-foot right-of-access through the board's land at To Aro.
