HAWKE'S BAY EARTHQUAKE
To be published as a bulletin and as a special number of the "New Zealand Journal of Science and Technology," the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research has had prepared a full account, from the scientific point of view, of the Hawke's Bay earthquake of February 3, 1931. The contents include a very lucid and comprehensive general story of the disaster, written,1 by Mr. P. B. Callaghan. This is followed by a consideration of tho geological aspects of the earthquake, Dr. J. Henderson, Mr. S. W. S. Strong, and Dr. P. Marshall;being the-contributors to this section. The seis'molbgical aspect is dealt with by Dr. C. E. Adams, Dr. M. A 1; F. Barnett, and-Mr, R. C. Hayes. lii the final " section Mr. A, Brodio and Mr. A-. G-. Harris write on the damago done to buildings. Tho whole runs into over 100 pages, and, with the accompanying maps and photographs, gives as complete an account of the earthquake as one could reasonably wish for.
