Remarkable success has followed the recommendations of Dr. Freeman, of the Nelson branch of the Department of Agriculture, in connection with swede crops in the Murchison district, whore club-root disease was prevalent last year, ! Dr. Freeman recommended the Herning variety. t One crop of this variety was i grown with good results on an area approaching 30 acres, while alongside on the same farm turnips failed owing to clubroot disease. --..■■
As this district is dependent, largely on root crops, for winter feed, the success of this variety is of much importance.
