FAMILY

One of the brightest entertainments civen in Wellington for some time past was staged in the Grand Opera House last evening by Mr/ Frank Neil's 'Keyue-Com-pany, for the purpose of raising funds for the Smith Family. In spite of the, unpleasant weather, the theatre was filled to overflowing, and as a result of the collection at the dpors, a substantial, addition will-be made to the Smith Family s UThe programme was a widely-varied, one, and afforded all the members :o£ the company ample opportunity to display their respective talents. The lady principals ot the company, Misses Miriam Lester, .Mplloy/ Josie Melville, and Maida Jones, were heard in.vocal numbers which found;tun favour with the audience/ and Miss Majda Jones was associated with Mr. George Wallace in a humorous scene of domestic bliss. Humorous items were presented by Messrs. Syd Beck, George Wajlace, Maloney, and •Barling and the Big Four contributed several vocal, quartets. ■■■ • ■ ■■ At the conclusion of the concert, Mr. Frank Neil briefly addressed the audience, stating that ho had watched with, keen interest the development of the Smith lamily here and'overseas, and was greatly impressed with.the way it "got.things done. He urged the audience to do all in its power to see that ample funds were available for the family to carry on its great. Subsequent to the performance, the Smith Family executive was entertained "back stage" by the. company. Brief speeches were made by members of the Smith Family thanking Mr. Neil and his company for generously giving help. It was pointed out that Mr. Neil and his company had been generous donors to charitable funds both m New Zealand and oversells, and over a period of years they had made very substantial contributions to funds for various charitable purposes.
