POWER CHARGES
SHOPS AND DWELLINGS REPORT ON NEW TARIFF
Yesterday afternoon a combined deputation representing tho retail traders of the city and the Manufacturers' Association waited on. tho tramways committeo of the City Council to urge the preparation of a new scale of charges for power used for commercial purposes. The deputation maintained that Wellington's rates are unnecessarily high and compare unfavourably with those iv force elsewhere in the Dominion. The .Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, said that the'committeo already had the question of revision of the rates under consideration, and was to consider at that meeting a report from the general manager of the Electricity Department, Mr. M. Cable, upon tho subject. The committee would then make its recommendation to the council, and the report would be discussed at the full meeting tomorrow evening. It is understood that the report also deals with domestic lighting rates.
