DECREE SIGNED
CLOSING CHURCH SCHOOLS
PROTEST TO PRESIDENT
MADRID, June 3. ' After a week's delay,' in which it was thought the Government was hesitating, President Zamora, himself a devout Catholic, signed a decree regulating religious orders and closing Catholic schools. As a sequel all the Spanish Archbishops have forbidden Catholics • to attend secular schools under penalty of excommunication. They have also sent a message to President Zamora protesting against the grave injury to the Church and discourtesy to the Pope, whoso attitude in relation to President Zamora is the subject of excited speculation.
