PLAY AT NELSON
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
NELSON, June 3,
At Trafalgar Park today Town retained the Max Shield by scoring 15 points (three converted tries) to Country's 6 (a try and a penalty goal). There was a record attendance for a Max Shield match. Town scored in the first spell as the result of a pretty piece of play in which Beard and Stewart combined for Beard to score between the posts. Stewart converted. In the second spell Wells kicked a fine penalty goal for Country. However, a few minutes afterwards Stewart made an opening in a Town back movement and sent McLean over for a try under the posts, Stewart converting. After a determined Country forward attack* McCain, the half, scored in the corner. Towards the end of the game Town proved the better side as the result of combination, and Turley dived for atry close in to the posts at the end of a forward rush. Stewart again had no difficulty in converting. The curtain-raiser was played between the junior representatives and the Nelson College first fifteen. The junior representatives won by 13 points to 9.
