HUTT AND ATHLETIC
One of the best games of the season resulted when Hutt and Athletic met at the Hutt Recreation Ground before a large crowd. The game was full of thrills, and had a surprise ending. The Athletic forwards mastered the Hutt pack, and kept coing well the whole game. The Hutt backs were the better, but did not get a great many chances; however, they were the deciding factor in Hutt's victory, which was gained in the last minute. The teams were:— Hutt.—Nees; Stevenson, Killeen, Ball; Feeney, Lilburne; Spencer; Dalton, Coulston, Wilson, Peck, Saulbrey, Hooker, Barry, Foster. Athletic-Scotland; Pritchard, Upchurch, Hickling; Heazlewood, English; Tindill; Watson, Campbell, Mollier, Jolly, Bovd, Logan. Gustofsen, Lamberg. Hutt early missed a penalty kick, and a shocking pass by Feeney spoilt a certain try. Heazlewood kicked a penalty goal for Athletic. A bright little movement ended in Campbell scoring and Heazlewood converting. A penalty was awarded near the posts about twelve minutes after Athletics try, and LUburne kicked an easy goal. Some time afterwards the ball went through the Hutt backs to Ball, who proved too fast for his opponents and ran forty-five yards and scored. Lilburne converted, lowards the end of the spell a magnificent pot by Tindill just missed the posts, and he was unlucky in being thrown out near the corner flag. The half-time score was: Hutt 8, Athletic 8. ,-,.•■ Jolly kicked a penalty goal for Athletic early in the second spell. Killeen, by a brilliant run, put Hutt on attack, and another fine run by him ended in his scoring. Lilburne converted. Heazlewood took a mark, and a magnificent dropkick fell just under the cross-bar. Atter Jolly had missed a penalty kick, and Hutt had almost scored, Heazlewood kicked two penalty goals, and it seemed as if Athletic had the game in hand. Hutt spurted, however, and when it just needed the ball to go out of play again for the final whistle to be blown, a long throw-in sent the Hutt backs away, and Stevenson scored near the corner flag.' Although the kick was a difficult one, Lilburne was successful with it, and amid the jubilation of the Hutt supporters the game ended Hutt 18, Athletic 17. Mr. D. Paris capably controlled the game.
