Island Bay Bible Society.

There was an excellent attendance at tie annual meeting-of-the Island Bay. branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society. Mrs. Vickery presided, and eulogised the fine work of the late Rev. G. Ireland, all standing in silence as a tribute to his memory. The Rev. Mr. Boggis also feelingly mentioned the great loss sustained by the passing of such a devoted minister. Mrs. Vickery introduced Mr. Milner, who gave an informative and inspiring address. The following officers were elected: —President, Mrs. Vickery (re-elected); vicepresidents, Mesdames Boggis, Keen, and Miss McGowan; secretary, Mrs. A. A. Brown (to whom a high tribute was paid for her efficient work as secretary); assistant-secretary, Miss Palmer; collectors, Mesdames Vickery, Marshall, Mcllutchon; Andrew, Sindall,; Tanner, Whyte, Burt, Capon, Brown, McCleary, Misses Brooks and Hendrickson. The organising secretary thanked the oflicers and collectors for the work of last year, also stressing the hope that all the branches would favour the "speeding up" of the returns, as suggested in the new plan of organising. A solo by Mrs. Tait, accompanied by, Miss Palmer, was much enjoyed. The -president proposed hearty votes of thanks to all who had helped to make the meeting so successful, the appreciation being carried by acclamation. The local Salvation Army officer also took part in the meeting. Brooklyn W.C.T.U. An interesting meeting of the Brooklyn Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in the Presbyterian. Hall recently. Mrs.. Webster presided,) and Mrs. Raino conducted the devotions. Mesdames Brewer and Gittings reported on the work done in preparing meals at the Sailors' Rest Rooms. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mrs. Butler in her recant illness. Mrs. Webster was appointed delegate to the executive meeting at Island Bay. Mrs. Stinson charmingly recited, and Mrs. Webster read a paper on "Drink and Revenue." An invitation was received from the Star of Wellington and Pioneer Good Templar Lodges to attend their diamond jubilee celebrations. Miss Bridgman, secretary Y.W.C.A., wrote thanking the union for co-operation and help in the "Girls' Week" campaign, and a letter was read from Mrs. Don (Dunedin)1 enclosing s.i^-iplcs of vests to be made for the missionaries. Miss McLay (organiser) gave a resume of tho Dominion-wide work for temperance, and in other countries. Mrs. Rothwell's address on her travels in Palestine was very instructive and inspiring. Both speakers, were accorded votes of thanks. The' meeting closed with the pronouncement of the Benediction. Presbyterian ladies were hostesses, and served a dainty tea. A Popular Singer. The popularity of tho famous baritone, Mr. Peter Dawson, was clearly evident in the enthusiastic reception given him by a largo audience at his second concert in the Town Hall on Saturday evening. Mrs. Peter Dawson wore a pink pearl-tinted lace gown beneath a pearl-tinted wrap with Oriental embroideries and sable trimming. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Temple White, Mr. E.
