CARGO TONNAGE
RATIONALISATION SCHEME

LONDON, June 3. The Chamber of Shipping has invited shipowners to consider before the council meeting on Jnne 16 two projected schemes to -rationalise cargo tonnage. It is intended by a national plan to stimulate scrapping tonnage and by an international plan to encourage the further laying up of surplus tonnage. The chamber also aims at reducing freights to a more remunerative but only moderately profitable level.
