IRISH SWEEP MONEY

DISTRIBUTION DELAYED

HOSPITALS IN DIFFICULTY

(From "The Post's" Representative.) LONDON, April 28. Considerable anxiety has been expressed about the non-payment of the proceeds allotted to hospitals from the last four sweepstakes, writes the Dublin correspondent of "The Daily Telegraph." Legislation on the distribution of the money is pending. Drastic action, to secure the distribution of money in hand has been urged by members of the committee representing the fifty-two hospitals participating in the sweepstakes, and a deputation was sent this afternoon to the Ministry for 'Local Government and Public Health (Mr. O'Kelly). Sir Joseph Glynn represented to the Minister the committee's uneasiness. ,Some of the hospitals, he said, were an difficulties because of the contracts into which they had entered, and they wished that the money recommended -for distribution by the Committee of Reference should be paid. The committee also- asked that the proposed legislation should deal only witfi. the proceeds of future sweepstakes and that the money in hand should bo distributed under the existing law. llr. O'Kelly said that all money from sweepstakes, including that at present in hand, would be put into a hospital fund and -would be administered by a Commission to be set up under the Bill. The Commisaion would have regard to the needs of the community in determining its awards, and would seek co-ordinate hospital services and secure co-operation between the different voluntary hospitals and between those hospitals and the Poor Law medical service. He .agmired the committee that they would be consulted by tho Commission^ but said the recommendations of the committee of reference for t the distribution of the proceeds of the Grand National sweepstake of last year would not be acted upon until they had been considered by the new Commission.
