CRUISES TO ISLANDS
PROGRAMME FOR SLOOPS
MANY PORTS OF CALL
Cruises ia the Pacific have been planned' for H.M.S. 'Dunedin, flagship of tho New Zealand Division of the Eoyal Navy,. and-the. sloops: Veronica and Laburnum. The Dunedin's programme of inWements .was published in "The Post" on .Thursday,,since when tho itineraries of the sloops have been announced. ... Tho-Laburnum, commanded by Commander E, Bamsbotham, \will leave Auckland on June 15, the same day as tho Dunedin leaves for Norfolk Island. The Laburnum, will make Noumea her first port of call and there, she will rejoin the Dunedin, remaining at the Island from June 19 to June 27, when she will sail for Vila, arriving there On Juno 29, and leaving two days later for Port Sandwich, where she will remain until July 5. Subsequent ports Of call will be: Ocean Island (July ]2-14), Bataritari (July 15-19), Tarawa (July 19-26), Bern (July 27-28), Niutao (July 29), Funafuti (July 30August -1), Eotumah (Austust 5-7), Luatoka (August 9-11), Suva (August 12-25), Savu Savu (August 26-30), Somo Somo (August 30-September 4), Ngau (August 4-S), Suva (August 8--12), Auckland (September 16). While at Lautoka the sloop will carry out bombardment practice. H.M.S. Veronica, commanded by Captain W. In Jackson, will leave Auckland on June 16 for Vavau where she is due on June 21. After a stay of two days she will sail for Pago Pago to replenish her.bunkers, leaving there on July 1 for Earotonga and the Cook Group where she will remain from July 4 to July 11. During this time the sloop will visit islands as requested by the Resident Commissioner. Her subsequent ports of call will 'be; Tahiti (July 13-22), Eaiatca (July 22-26), Bora Bora (July 26-31), Penrhyii (August 2-3), Suvarov (August 5), and Pago Pago (August 7-15). She will then proceed to Apia to pick up the Administrator of. Western. Samoa for a cruise round the Tokelau Group.^ She will leave Apia on August 28 for Suva, where she is due on September 1, proceeding thence to Lautoka (September 10-14) where she will carry out bombardment practice. From Lautoka sho will call at Yasawa (September 15-17), Lambasa (September 18-20), Somo Somo (September 20-22), Levuka (September 22-25), Suva (September 25-October 5), Kgaloa (October 5-6), Totoya (October 7-9), and Ougea (October 9-10). From Ongea she will return to Auckland, where slu3 is due on October 14.
