MINING FATALITY
MAN CRUSHED BY TRUCKS
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, May 26. A fatality occurred at Hikurangi yesterday, when Mr. William Brackett, single, aged 22 years, of Waro,. was fatally injured. He was employed as horse driver in Wilson's Collieries mine, which is controlled by Mr. A. T. McGlashan 'a co-operative party of miners. There wero apparently no -witnesses of the accident, which took place in No. 6 dip, where the deceased was working. Presumably he was caught against the side of the drive by threo full trucks of coal coming up from tho bottom of the mine. AVhen discovered at about 11.30 yesterday morning, shortly after the accident, he was hurried to the pithead, and Dr. I). Armstrong, of Hikurangi, and tho St. John Ambulance • from Whangarei were summoned. However, he was severely crushed and died within a few minutes of being brought to the surface. Tho deceased was a very popular young man. His mother and his youngest brother and sister reside at Waro. Two other brothers, Messrs. Joseph and John Brackett, left Hikurangi last week for Huntly, whero they are employed. ________________________
