THE EXCHANGE EATE
EDITORIAL OPINION
(Special to the "Evening Post.") DUNEDIN, This Day. . The "Otago Daily Times" says:— "It is impossible for us to agree with the Minister of Finance when he.claims that- the wisdom of the course adopted by the Government in raising tho exchange, rate is 'being increasingly recognised.' Mr. Coatcs would have put the position more accurately if he had said that, while the opponents,of exchange inflation remain convinced of the soundness of their objection to the step taken, a great many people who were led to believe that the increase in tho rate would be of direct and immediate benefit to the producers have been greatly disappointed with the result of the Government's action. In the meantime, however, it will be a matter of some satisfaction to business people to learn that they can safely disregard tho rumours, probably put into currency from interested motives, that thero is likely to an early change in the rate."
