USEFUL NATIONAL WORKS

Sir, —One wonders whether the Govern; lilent; will take.any notice of the complaints of the local bodies of the waste of public money on much o£ the present work done by the unemployed. The unemployed are not to blame : |or the class of job that the Government: offers.; It is useless for the local bodies to waste their time in conferences and ■ drawing tip lists of works, because the Government only pigeou-holes the reports and sits back and waits events. What has the Government done towards getting on with the new outlet to Lake Wairarapa or straightening the Manawatu River? There are other big national works that need urgent attention. The professional politician is the biggest curse New Zealand has to grapple with. Once we can banish the professional politician with all his boards and commissions, New Zealand will get out of the mire. It is time that Mr. Coates found some really important national work for the unemployed people of New Zealand.—l am, etc., f;: ... :. '■•"■■: TEMPUS FUGI.T.
