NORTHUMBERLAND ARRIVES

Northumberland, which has arrived at Auckland with general cargo from Liverpool, is one of three vessels used by the Federal Lino as cadet ships, and on her present voyugo the steamer is carrying 32 cadets. A few of the youths arc making their first trip, but the majority of them have visited Now Zealand before. Just before the steamer left Liverpool on her present voyage" two exnaval whalers to be used by the cadets for racing were placed aboard the ship. She also carries a gig which was once part of the equipment of the' Koyal yacht Victoria and Albert. The Northumberland was nt Napier at the time of the tragic earthquake two years ago, and in the main alleyway ia the officers' quarters on the ship is p. brass plate presented to the ship in* commemoration ofthe splendid work done by her officers and crew at the- time of tho disaster. It was the I Northumberland that brought many homeless refugees to Auckland from the st£i£kcu itrtiis.^ • -»
