NEW ZEALAND PARTY

ALLOCATION OF PORTFOLIOS

Tho members of the delegation which is to represent New Zealand at the World Economic Conference will leave Wellington at noon tomorrow by the Bangitata. The official party consists of the Prime Minister (the Bt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) and Mrs.. Forbes, tho Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. E. Masters) and Mrs. Masters, the Assistant Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. G. C. Kodda), Professor A. H. Tocker, Mr. C. A. Jcffery (private secretary to the Primo Minister), and Dr. B. M. Campbell (private secretary to the Minister of Finance). This afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Forbes and Mr. and Mrs.- Masters were the guests of the Minister of Finance (the Bt. Hon J. G.- Coates) and Mrs. Coates at an informal luncheon, the only other guests being Cabinet Ministers and their wives and the Speaker .of -the House of Beprcsentatives (Sir Charles Statham) and Lady. Statham. The opportunity was taken to wish the delegation' a pleasant trip, and express the hope that their mission would be successful.. ■■'.■■ ' ..'■"' During the absence of Mr. Forbes and Mr. Masters from New Zealand, Mr. Coates, who will be Acting-Prime Minister, will also assume control of the portfolio. of ■ External Affairs, as well as administering Departments at present under the control of Mr. Forbes. Tho Minister of Lands (the Hon. E. A.., Ransom) will take over the Railways Department and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, and Sir Apirana Ngata will become Attorney-General. The Minister of Justice (the Hou. J. G. Cobbe) will assume control of Industries and Commerce from Mr. Masters, and the Minister of Public Works (the Hon.-J. Bitehener) will be placpd in charge of the Education Department. Mr. Forbes said last evening, that the date of the opening of tho next session of Parliament would be contingent on the date of tho return of the New Zealand delegation. He did ■ not expect to be back in New Zealand' until late in September or early in October.
