REVOLUTIONARY STRIKE

MADRID, May/10; 'A'general'strike, beginning at midnight, aiming at the overthrow of the Government, in conjunction with tho rising organised by army chiefs, resulted in serious disorders throughout the country. - . ' ' ~,.'■ During a collision between police and Keels at Madrid a woman produced a bomb from a basket and hurled it at the combatants, killing a policman and a Bed and wounding live people, including herself.. A bomb exploded in a tramway depot and injured five people. Six peoplo wore killed and many wounded in lighting in the provinces. The strike failed in Barcelona, and was only partly successful in Madrid. Twenty bomb explosions occurred in the course of the day. Electric cables and watermairis were damaged. Many rioters were arrested. The Government's promptitude in arresting hundreds of suspects, including twelve arniy staff officers, last night prevented the staging of a coup d'etat. •■'■•■
