INSTALLATION CEREMONIES
AT LOWER HUTT
The installation of the ' nlayor and councillors of tho borough of Lower Hutt took place last evening. Those who took part in the installation were the retiring Mayor (Mr. W. T. Strand), tho newly-elected : Mayor (Mr. J. AY. Andrews), and Councillors W. G. Meldrum, AY. 11. Wilson, A. Anderson, A. Grierson, aud B. A. Ginger, who have previously served on tho council, and Councillors C. J. Ashton and J. E. Napier, new councillors. Councillor J. Mitchell was absent through illness. Prior to installing his successor, Mr. | Strand congratulated him on his great victory and welcomed Mrs. Andrews, tho Mayoress. Mr. Strand also congratulated the councillors, and assured Mr. Andrews that he would find good team work a feature of his council. , Mr. Andrews then made the statutory declaration'and installed the councillors. On" taking the chair, he said he earnestly desired to bo of assistance, and was' sure he could ldok for assistance from the council. He was prepared to devote his whole powers to the work, and with the co-operation of the council he was sure good work would be done. His greatest wish was to help the unemployed, and he highly commended the. spirit displayed by the relief workers. Mr. W. G. Meldrum,, senior councillor, assured Mr. Andrews of tho cooperation of the councillors, and thanked Mr. Strand for his great work for the district. Councillor J. B. Napier, the youngest councillor,, also spoke: ■'■■■ . ■ A motion of thanks to tho retiring Mayor and councillors was recorded.
COMMITTEES AT PETONE
Welcomes to new councillors and congratulations to the old ones and to the Mayor (Mr. D. McKenzie) on their return were<expressed at the first meeting of the newly-elected Petone Borough Council last night, when the Mayor and councillors were installed, and committees were set up. The committees are:— Works Committee: Councillors E. T. E. Hogg, A. Seholefield, V. A. Noble, J. Cumming, and G. London. : feoserves Committee: Councillors J. C. Burns, R. W. Toomath, E. N.
