PETONE-HUTT CAS BOARD
The monthly meeting of the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board was held last night. Mr. \V. G. Lodder presided, and there were also present Menrt. 8. Clendon. W. G. Meldrum, D. W. Campbell, A. Scholefield. and E. T. E. Hogg. Complaints of the nuisance caused by ■moke and soot from the gasworks were received from the Petone Central Tenni» Club. It was decided to prevent the nuisance by using cck« instead of coal in the fire which has been causing the trouble. The works manager (Mr. C. Shaw) reported that in April 9,350,000 cubic feet of gas had been manufactured from 671 tone 12cwt of coal carbonised, giving an average make per ton of 13.019 cubic feet. ■ The average calorific value of the ga« wat, 464 B.TIi.U. and 208,000 cubic feet les» gas wan made than in April. 1932. Coal, tar. and coke in stock on May 1 were estimated at .103e tons 14cwt. 18.561 gallon*, and 60 tons respectively. The report of the acting-secretary (Mr. 0. Silbery) stated that in April 7 new services, 8 cookers, 1 copper, 1 cahpnoßt, and 1 water heater were installed.
