OBITUARY
MR. J. S. WATCHORN
(By Telegraph.) ' (Special to "The Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. Another of Palmerston North's pioneer business mpn, Mr. John Samuel Watchorn, died yesterday. In 1880 he came to New Zealand, and three years later took up his residence in Palmerston North, taking a position ■with Messrs.. Joseph Nathan and Co., as head of the drapery department of the U.F.C.A. In 1901 he started the Victoria House Company, which has developed into the P.D.C., one of the largest provincial stores in New Zealand. After selling; his interests in that business, Mr. Watchorn conducted stores in a number of centres in the North Island, but since his retirement some years ago has lived with his elder son, Mr. Geoff. Watchorn,. onetime amateur welterweight boxing champion of Australasia, and now a well-known referee. His other son is Mr. Nevil Watchorn, of Sydney, and the only daughter is Mrs< J. Garnham, of New Plymouth. ;
