; In a game in, which both sides threw away point's-repeatedly.ifrom free kicks, Petone beat Hutt by 9 to 3 on the Petone 'OvaL There was'little difference between the teams until the :last fifteen minutes of the second spell, when Hutt slumped badly, rousing themselves too late to avert defeat. The teams were:— Petone.— AVhitley; Valk, Trapp, Huxtable; ' Pollock, Peterson; O'Halloran; Sundgren, Lambourrie, Sehvood, Martin, Wilson, Beban, Reid, Carr. Hutt: Lilburne; Nees, Hansen, E. Ball; Killeen. Feeney; Spencer; Jaggers, Coulston, Wilson, Baker, Hooker, Saulbrey, Peck, Trenchard. Potone kicked off against, the sun, and play was eventually concentrated in the Petone twenty-five, where some hard rucking took place. Killeen almost got through, but'Jost control of the ball, and Whitley touched down. After Petone had again forced, Killeen headed another fast back movement. This culminated in a penalty for Hutt, which was missed, anil soon after two further free kicks went astray. Petone came downfield in a fast movement which just failed when Huxtable was pushed out over the Hutt line, Hutt returning in a strong offensive. Killeen got away in midfiekl, cutting out four men by, brilliant side-stepping. In the Petone twenty-five he transferred to Wilson, whose pass connected with Trenchard, the latter forcing his way over. It was a most spectacular movement. Lilburne missed an easy kick. Hutt 3, Petone 0 Again Killeen headed a fifty yards rush, but Whitley stopped it well, and just before half-time Petone were attacking after Sehvood had missed a penalty from well out. Play opened up somewhat after the resumption, and it was not long before Petone had scored, profiting by Lilburne's mistake in holding on. Huxtable followed up fast on a kick by Beban, and went over well out. The kick failed. 3-3. Soon after, Hutt were penalised for collaring a man after'he had got rid of the ball, and Sehvood added three more points to Petone's score. Then Spencer was caught taking the ball out of the scrum, and Sehvood was again successful with his kick.. Three penalty kicks were missed by Hutt within a few minutes, after which they seemedi to quieten down, being penned in in their own twenty-five. A spectacular rally ■by the: forwards, however, took the ball to the Petone lino, where two chances of scoring ' were narrowly missed, and time went with the scores, Petone 9, Hutt 3. Mr. D. Paris was the referee.
