RELIEF WORK RECORDS
CHARGES AGAINST TWO MEN
On charges arising from the inclusion in the pay and time sheets of the name of a relief worker who had left the job, the trial began in the Supreme Court today of John Charles Cannon, aged 28, and John Alexander Paton Sissons, aged 27, who were timekeeper and foreman respectively of relief works at Townsena Road. They were charged with conspiring to defraud the Unemployment Board of sums of money and! with making false vouchers purporting to be signed by "K. J. McGrath" for the receipt of pay. The amount involved was small. -Mr. Justice Blair was on the Bench. Mr. C. Evans-Scott appeared for tho Crown; Mr. A. M. Cousins for Sissons, and Mr. E. G. Webb for Cannon. Similar evidence to that called by the Crown when the two accused were before the Magistrate's Court towards the end of March was given today. It was thought that the trial might last over two days.
