Export prices declined during March, reports the Government Statistician, the average index number for that month (on the base average prices niling, during 1909-13 equal 1000) was 836, representing a fall of 42 points, or 4.8 per cent., since the previous month, 'and of 23.2 per cent. as\ compared with export prices ruling during the year 1014. Heavy decreases in prices received for dairy products and meat were the main factors contributing to this fall in the index. , . . Betail prices continue to fall, a decrease'of 11 points in the "all groups" index being, recorded since February. Food prices, on the average, fell during the month despite seasonal increases in' the prices of certain commodities, for example, eggs. The index number. iot the three i'ood groups combined was, in March, 1933, 1.1 per cent, above the July, 1914, level of such prices. Wholesale prices fell slightly (by 3 points) since February. . , • . ' -. ■ Share prices, as represented by the index covering market prices of shares in 49 industrial, financial, and commercial companies, advanced by 23 points, or 3 per cent., since the end of February. The index is, however, 24.7 per cent. below{ the 1926 level.
