GANDHI'S FAST
SMUTS URGES DELAY/,
FEAR OF CALAMITY,
(Received May 3, 10 a.m.)' CAPE TOWN, May 2. General Smuts has cabled Mr. Gandfe urging him to delay his proposed fast* ing, saying: "It will endanger your life, and might lead to a dreadful calamity.'' It is understood that the Government of India will shortly consider its responsibility under the. gaol rules requiring forcible feeding, to prevent death by starvation.
