NEGLIGENCE WITH SERUM
HOME, May 1. Ten children died and a large number are seriously ill a,t Venice, Milan, Genoa, and elsewhero as the result of i inoculation' with an anti-diphtheria serum prepared at a Naples institute, j An official communique states that > owing to deplorable nogligence a quan- j tity of anti-toxins, after being passed j by the laboratory of the Health Bureau, were subjected to further manipulation . and mixed with others. The director, Professor Tcrni, and an assistant have been arrested and charged with orimfcaal negligence. Tho affected children aro being treated by Italy's foremast specialists. ,As tho incubation period of the- majority of those vaccinated has passed or ia passing, it is hoped there will be no metre deaths.
