NO RATES AT ALL
Speaking at the Concert Chamber last night, Mr. S. Natusch (Civic League' and Ratepayers' Association) 9aid he had been connected, as. a\ paid assistant, with the creation of a new city, 26 miles North of London, tho Welwyn Garden City, and when entirely" completed its population -would be 45,000, and definitely limited to that. This city built- by business men ias a business proposition. It had its ■own industries, theatre, and picture houses, churches, paved roads, gardens, and reserves. Its rents wero cheaper than thosu of any- nearby town, living is cheaper, thero was no profiteering, tho unearned increment benefited all tho people, and not the individual, and this city was . entirely free of rates. "Tho important thing is that the training which helped to produce those results in England ,may bo brought to bear.on civio affairs here, and may help to make the results obtained in Wellington, more in keeping with tho money expended," said Mr. Natusch.
