SHOT DEAD BY ASSASSIN
SUCCESSOR CHOSEN
LIMA (PEEU), April 30. General Don Luis Sanchez Cerro, President of Peru since December, 1931, was .assassinated soon after he' reviewed a parade of 20,000 young men in Jorge Chavez Park. The assassin, Abelardo de Mendoza, fired several shots into President Cerro V body .as the Executive party started to drive away from the pnrk. The assassin was slain by the Presidential guards. Tho attack was so sudden that elaborate precautions taken to protect the President's life were unavailing. General Oscar Bena,vides was tonight chosen as President.
General Don Luis Sanchez Cerro was elected President of Peru ■on October 11, 1931. An attempt was made on his life on October 25,1931, and another at Miraflores on March. 6, 1932.
