LAST MONTH'S RAINFALL

SATURDAY'S SPORTS

(Special to "The Evening Post.") NELSON, May 1. The fine weather which has1 prevailed' for the last few weeks broke during the night, when heavy rain set in from the north- It was a warm rain aud will be very welcome in the country districts. Up to yesterday the rainfall for April totalled 1.74 in, but this was increased up to 9 a.m. today by 1.29 in, making 3.03:n for the poriod, compared with 1.89 in for the corresponding month of last year. For the first four months af the year the fall is 14.46 m, against 10.68 in for the corresponding period of 1932. The total amount of bright sunshine recorded during the month was 198 hours 55 minutes, compared with 154 hours 35 minutes in 1932. Police-Sergeant G. .J. Paine, of Wellington, ha.s arrived in Nelson to relieve Senior-Sergeant A. Stark during the latter's annual leave. Regret will be felt by the many friends of Mrs. Mary Emily St. George, to learn of her death on April 29 at the age of 85, Mrs. St. George resided with her daughter, Mrs. K. J. Eyre, of Richmond Avenue, Nelson. Of her family cf five sons and two daughters the • surviving are Mr. Arthur St. George (Auckland), >Ir. Leonard St. George (Wimbledon, England), Mrs. 15. St. G. Wood (Kotorua). and Mrs. K. J. Eyre (Nelson). The Nelson Rugby Union has decided to hold a knock-out round with the senior teams to allow them to got to top form

The opening of the Association Football competitions saw Athletic Old Boys beat Thistle by 5 goals to 2 and V.M.C.A. defeat Celtic 2 goals to 1.
