CARFEX LOOKING WELL
(Special from "Limited.") HAWEEA.-April 21. The Egmo-nt Eacing Club's Winter Meeting is engrossing the attention of Hawera trainers and owners at present. Tho club has . had heavy losses for several meetings, and special endeavours are being made to ensure a successful winter fixture. Aga Khan and Csrfex returned from ,thoir northern trip-on Wednesday, Aga Khan forgoing his AvoEdals engage-
mentis. B. Brough remained to race Bapper at the Avondale Meeting.. Carfex looks particularly well after his race, and should strip better than ever for his engagements here.' Miss Cavandish was badly kicked at Feilding on tho second day, and may not ablo to race here. Tho Grandcourt —Cleasanta maiden, St. Clara, is making steady improvement, and went attractively .over half :i mile with March Alone yesterday morning. The latter has nad an easy time since racing, but hit out well on the softer going. The pair finished, together in 52sec. Chief Line ai\i Davistoek, who both raced at Foilding, were given light exercise work; Chief Line disappointed in his race on the second day, but was voted unlucky to be beaten on the first day. Davistock ran two good races, and returned looking better than usual after a trip away. Awaken and Gibraltar were associated over six furlongs, and, beginning slowly over tho iyrst furlong, registered lmin SOsee. Both horses appreciated the easy going, and finished well. Another niaideninthe Euapapa mare, Greypapa, showed a liking for the track by galloping • half a mile with Attentive in Slisec, and shading her opponent at tho finish. The steeplechaser, Copcy, is looking in good condition, and hit out well in a couple of rounds of strong pace work. Teriacre showed signs of- lameness after his exercise ivork. Chief Link (H. Mills) and Green Linnet (W. Grindlay) were sent together over a round of the schooling fences. Green Linnet showed much more confidence, and jumped quickly and cleverly. Chief Link made no bones about clearing the obstacles at racing pace. It was a satisfactory tryout for both horses.
