TRENTHAM JOTTINGS
TWO MARTON ASPIRANTS
(By VBangatira.") Since the Easter racing the tracks have been quiet at. Trentham, and as few horses have nearer engagements than at the Nelson and Marlborough Meetings next month it is unlikely that any serious work will bo done for another week or so. After yesterday's rain the going was dead on the grass this morning. . ■ ■ Trenthain will probably have two representatives at the Marton Meeting next Wednesday in Mr. V. Biddiford's pair,' Clangor and Valdarado, but it is unlikely that any horses from the centre will be going to the Egmont Meeting the following week. /Clangor (S. Wilson) had Traymela (G. Dick) as a companion over six furlongs this morning, and he drew clear in the straight to win the gallop comfortably by two or three lengths in lmin 20 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 54sec. Clangor has been accepted for , the Autumn Hack Plate at Marton, and he will be ridden by B. H. Morris. Traymela was going well in the trial till his saddle slipped, and he should soon improve on his disappointing showing at Tauherenikau last Monday Valdarado (J. D. Martin) sprinted half a mile with Aryan Beauty (Dick), leaving his mate near the end to finish three lengths in front in 52 3-ssec. Valdarado, who looks in very racy order, will be K. Voitre's mount in.the Novice Stakes at Marton, and he should give a good account of himself. Others to gallop included Te Ua, Pahu, Lady Noel, Bedtop, Good Hunting, and the t.hree : year-old Black Eonaid—Matin Bell filly, but none were seriously tried against the watch. Bedtop, who is being trained from A. Goodman's stable by his owner (Mr. 0. Physick), has not long been back after a three months' spell. Good Hunting is to remain at Trentham, and will bo raced around these parts during the winter, when the easier tracks should suit him. S. Wilson will be riding at Timaru next week, having been engaged for Mr. B. J. Murphy's horses; A. Jenkins will be at Marton, but he has no definite mounts yet. Four of Mr. W. E. Kemball's Cape Horn yearlings (Cape Morn, Orby's Last, Willwyn, and Barnmn) have been sent down to W. McConkey from Masterton to break in and train, and the others will follow when the yearlings purchased at the January sales have been shipped to Victoria. Mr. Kemball's Australian trainer, Gr. Jones, is expected to arrive back in tlio Dominion the week after next on a short holiday, and tho Australia-destined yenrlings nvo to return with him. Lady Pam disappointed in her races at Tauherenikau, so -she-.- has been thrown out of training and sent to her owner's Mastcrton property. It is possible that sho will now be.relegated to the stud. ... Advice received at Trentham states that J. W. Lowe's two horses, Bed Sun and Sage, are doing excellently at Caulfield. Sago was due to have had his first start in Australia'nt Mcntone last Wednesday, and Bed Sun was to make his second appearance nt Epsom today.
