OTAGO CHAMPION BOAT

QUESTION OF TYPE

NO APPRECIABLE ; DIFFERENCE ■,

(By Telegraph.— Press Association.) . CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Canterbury oarsmen and officials .present at the interprovincial eight-oar contest at Wellington did not take any T steps to satisfy themselves whether there was any foundation for the suggestion that the Otago boat was of a better racing type than the craft used by the, other provinces. The question was referred some months ago to the New Zealand Rowing Council, which presented all the eightoar boats, of' which, it has since been stated, one cost £10 more than the others.

"There can be no.foundation for the suggestion that any appreciable difference in the boats exists," said the president of the Canterbury Rowing Association (Mr. F. D. Kesteven). "A £10 difference in the price of a .boat could riot make it foster." He said he had known crews to get more pace out of a heavy boat'than a light one. Mr. Kesteven paid 4 tribute to the Otago crew's magnificent rowing.

Tho Rev.1 C. N. Lack, assistant home director of the China Inland Mission, who is visiting New Zealand, arrived in Wellington today, and is staying at the V.M.C.A. • •■ ■
