MINING AT CROMWELL
EVERYONE CONTENTED
(Special to "Tlie Evening Post.") DUNEDIN, This Day. "There is no ono on the dole up there," said a visitor who has just, returned from a trip to Cromwell, where, everyone appears contented'and business is good. Every 'week, he said, gold was being brought, to the bank, "and it, would be interesting to know how much of the precious metal was being sold .to .tho. bank; it must be a pretty tidy sum. The visitor added ■that he had not met a, single man foilsicking on the river banks and elseiwhere jvho wanted to return to tow.a life. All seemed to be making good and liked the life. The Cromwell township would be even more prosperous when the Kawarau Eiver reached its. winter level, for eve:a better returns would then'bc obtained. Should the Kawarau gates again be closed this winter, this would help the working of the river banks considerably. Last year tho Kawarau Amalgamated Company, which now proposes to build another dam below the Arrow Eiver, allowed unemployed to work the river when tho gates were clrisec':, and the same may happen again this winter.. If so,-there should be many more re#dy to try their luck. ■
