SMITHFIELD AWARDS.

By the last English mail the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board has received a report from its London manager regarding the display and judging .on Smithfield Market of the lambs ex the Ninth Royal Show held in Palmerston North in November last.

The board offers annually special prizes at the Royal Show for fat lambs most suitable for our Dominion's export trade, and the type most desired to keep' up our reputation on the London market. The lambs are hrst judged alive on the showground and later the carcasses are shipped Home and specially displayed and judged on Smithfield Market. The Meat Board awards prizes for the judging both in Zealand and at Home. This year the winning pens were as follows:—

Judged Alive on Showground.—Lot No 657-E. C. Vile, Bulls, £15, 1; Lot No. RG9—D. Collis; Kairanga, £10, '2; Lot No 682— J. H. McDonald, Raumai, £5, 3. Result of Award on Smithfield Market -Lot No. 657— E. C. Vile, Bulls, £15, 1; Lot No. 673—A. Peters, Dannevirke, £10, 2;_Lot No. 678— J. Trotter, Dannevirke,

Ihe judges appointed by the Imported Meat Trades Association, in making the selection of the three prize-winning pens commented as follows:—"The whole exhibit was generally made up of beautiful lambs, and under the circumstances we would like to compliment those concerned on the excellent turnout and dressing of these lambs. Owing to the really high quality of the whole exhibit it was quite a difficult matter to determine the best three pens."
