HUTT VALLEY MEETING

' The annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Christian Youth Movement was held in Knox Schoolroom on Sunday and was presided oveV by the president (Mr. J. S. Reid). There were some thirty delegates present. . The annual report stated that the activities of the movement had increased. The encouragement and help given by the Weilington council had been much appreciated. During the year two rallies had been held, at Lower Hutt and Petono, the latter being specially well attended. The proceeds were devoted to the ■local relief funds. Early morning hilltop devotional meetings had been held ,' at. Normandale and Moonshine on March 29, 1932, and a leaders' retreat at Belmont on June 3 was addressed by the Revs. J. R. Blanchard and H. W. Newall and Messrs. M. A. Tremewan and L. Greenberg. Eleven lectures were given to the leaders' group, which has 29 members. A group had been formed at Petone and had organised monthly prayer meetings in the various churches. The movement had taken an active part in the Youth for Youth campaign both in Wellington and at Lower Hutt and Petone. It had co-operated in the work of holding services at the Akatarawa camp, and had also assisted there with concert parties. A basketball tournament in which 18 teams (150 players) had taken part had been held; Lower Hutt Methodist and the Waiwetu Methodist teams won the senior and junior events respectively. A harrier club had been formed late in the season and some excellent runs had been held. An effort had been made to assist the unemployed and some good work accomplished. The report expresses appreciation and thanks to St. Stephen's Orchestra, the Petone Salvation Army Band, various churches for the use of halls, and to householders for the use of private homes for meetings. The financial statement showed a credit balance. The movement had supported itself entirely, without making any levies; on classes. It was decided to continue the leaders' training group. It is hoped that the. movement will be able to arrange for services to be conducted at Haywards this year. The secretary was instructed to send a letter of appreciation to Mr. R. B. Wood (who has been .transferred to Auckland) for his efficient and untiring work as secretary -of the movement since its inauguration. ' ' Ths election of ofEcers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. J. S. Reid; vicepresidents, Mrs. H. E. K. Fry and Mr. W. Carey; acting secretary, Mr. R. S. Odell; auditor, Mr. L.
