RATES SUBSIDY
Dealing ivith an application by the Academy o£ Fine Arts for a .subsidy covering the full amount of the rates made to the City Council, a concession made in past years, the Mayor (Mr. T. C. A, Hislop) said last night that the question might well be left till tlie end cf the year. The amount of subsidies granted by the council to date was £4129, of which £3000 was for the National Art Gallery and ' Dominion Museum. The bodies subsidised included the Women's National Reserve, the Workers' Educational Association, the Sailors' Friend Society, the Boys' Institute/ the Free Ambulance, and the Red Cross Society. It seemed that nothing could be done for the Academy of Fine Arts, .but in reply to a suggestion by Councillor C. H. Chapman that somethingmight be given to the Free Ambulance, Mr. . Hislop ' said lie thought the matter could be left to the incoming committee- " ' '
