IMPORTANT DISCUSSIONS

It is expected that the forthcoming discussions between the Australian Government delegation, Senator Massey Greene, a member of the Commonwealth Ministry, and representatives of the New Zealand Government on the trade' relations between the two countries will cover a wide range. The fact that both countries are either making tariff adjustments or about to do so means that the negotiations may have a most important bearing on the future reciprocal arrangements which both Government express a desire to bring about.

The New Zealand side of the case is being prepared by the Minister of Fin-' ance and Customs (the Et. Hon. J. G. Coatcs) and on several occasions Mr, Coates has expressed a willingness to discuss any proposal which would be of mutual advantage to the Commonwealth and the Dominion.

The Australian party, which arrives on Monday, is as follows: —

Senator Massey Greene. Mr. J. McKinnon, of the Federal Quarantine Department.

Mr. A. Horan, an official of the Federal Treasury and Customs Department,

Mr. C. B. Carter, of the Federal Department of Trade and Commerce, who was a member of the official Australian delegation to the Ottawa Conference.

Professor A. E. V. Biehardsbn, Professor of Agriculture at the University of Adelaide, who will act as an official adviser and who was also a member of the Australian delegation to the Ottawa Conference.

Mr. W. Deady, Private Secretary. The party will stay, at the Midland Hotel while in Wellington.

The delegation will be welcomed oh Monday by the Prime Minister (the Et. Hon. G. W. Forbes), who is expected back in Wellington on Sunday, and it is expected that on Tuesday the preliminary negotiations will commence. It is anticipated that the conference will last "at least a fortnight.
